An "us" post

OK, I know this is technically Kyler's blog, but I wanted to update you all on what Keith & I did this weekend. We were invited by Option Care/Walgreens to go to the Annual Hemophilia Gala. It was seriously the coolest & most amazing event I've ever been to.

Keith & I got all dressed up, my parents stayed with Kyler, & off we went. We got there & they had the entire parameter of the ballroom with tables full of silent auction items. So many generous people donated services, tickets, winery tours, crafts, etc... with all profits going to the Hemophilia Foundation of Illinois.

We met most of the Option Care team that takes care of us. They were all wonderful & now we can put faces with names when we talk to them. Not only were they kind, helpful & informative...but they all want to come out & walk with "Kyler's Krew" for the 1st Annual Hemophilia Walk on September 18th. Option Care will also be one of our sponsors.

We met & talked to the director of HFI (Hemophilia Foundation of Illinois) Bob Robinson. He was so nice & I really felt like he cared & wanted to know our "story" with Hemophilia. We heard testimonials about Hemophilia camp that Kyler will go to in the future & saw success stories of the support this foundation offers.

The most amazing part of the evening was the live auction. One vacation raised over $10,000!! Then, the auctioneer said that they've already raised $83k with previous events. Let's raise $17k more so we have an even $100k!! This money goes to sending kids to camp - it costs roughly $500 per child to attend camp for a week. At camp they learn to self infuse & take care of their bleeds/issues that may arise. They also are there to be normal & have fun & experience camp like every active child should!! Within a matter of minutes, $17,200 was raised!!! It was outstanding.

Overall, it was an fantastic night! Wonderful people, amazing support & the feeling that we're starting to become involved with an incredible organization. Before now we weren't really ready to get involved with the Hemophilia community. Denial, acceptance, learning, etc... Now, I don't know what the heck we waited for!!!

Since I should talk about Kyler on his blog, he's doing great!! His vocabulary & comprehension is incredible. We can have conversations with him. When I pick him up from Dena's at 2:40 until he goes to bed, he's constantly talking. I have to tell him to stop talking for 2 minutes so I can tell Keith something.

We're taking him to see Yo Gabba Gabba Live on the 14th. We haven't told him. I can't wait to see the look on his face when the characters walk out on stage. I had a Brobee (his favorite) shirt made off etsy.com for him to wear. I promise to take LOTS of pictures!!

Hope you're all doing well.
