Rough day.

Well, I think I jinxed us. I've been talking about Kyler not having very many problems with his Hemophilia lately, & it came back to bite me in the tush. Nothing horrible, just not our typical day.

Kyler woke up around 4:oo on Thursday morning. He was fussy but not upset, so we were hoping he'd go back to sleep. That didn't happen. Around 4:50 he started crying really hard. We ran in there to get him. He was HOT! We took his temperature & it was 103.2 on his forehead & 102.2 under his armpit. He didn't have any other symptoms of being sick.

Keith called the Hematologist on call at Children's. They wanted us to bring him in for a port culture. We packed up some stuff & left around 5:20. We got there & we were the only ones waiting. We got in very quickly. We told the Resident doctor that we would be accessing the port & when it came to the blood draw, the nurse could step in. They were more then happy to allow this to happen. Kyler was really upset. He was scared. When they checked his ears, the doctor said that one was really red. Ear infection. He must've been scratching it during the night b/c there were little scratches in it. It came on hard & fast!

That explained the fever. We still did the culture, but so far everything looks normal. We got a prescription for Amoxicillin & we left to go home. When we got there, I put Kyler down. He screamed!!! "Owie mommy! It hurts! Uppie mommy!!" I picked him up & asked where it hurt. He pointed to his right foot. Not the same spot as the previous one, but on the other side of the foot. Sure enough, he had a big bulge & it was warm.

It was not like that earlier. He stood up at the hospital & wasn't favoring his foot at all. Keith & I knew it had to be treated. We felt horrible that we had to stick another needle in his port in the same day, but we knew it needed to be done. He got his Factor & everything seemed to be looking up.

He was really clingy to me all day. I think I got an hour to an hour & a half of not holding him or having him sitting in my lap or sleeping on me all day. We were all exhausted.

Today he's doing much better. The Amoxicillin has kicked in. His fever is down & the bulge on his foot is only a mini-bump right now. He's able to walk on it, but he's still limping a little bit. He will get another dose of Factor today.

He's taking a 3 hour nap as we speak. Seriously, 3 hours & still going!! He really needed it though & that means he really is feeling better.

Yes, it was a rough day. I know many people out there have worse days. As tiring & hard all of that was, we knew we had to stay positive for him. He was already upset, we didn't want to make it worse by getting worked up about it.

I can't really complain. He hasn't had any issues since the week after Christmas. That's really good for a Severe kid.
