Ahhh, I love Disney World. It's even better when you bring your son for the first time! We had a great time. It started out a little rough though. About an hour before we left for the airport, Kyler wasn't feeling so good. I took his temperature & it was 100.5. We gave him factor through the port about an hour prior to that, so we both started to worry it was an infection. We gave Kyler some Tylenol. He said he felt fine & was acting like himself, so we left.
On the plane about 1/2 way into our flight, he started rubbing his eyes and whining about them. He felt really warm. Keith took him into the bathroom to rinse his eyes out with water. I didn't see anything in his eyes & they weren't red, so we figured it they were irritated because he was tired. Our flight took off when he would normally be waking up from his nap, so he was overdue for a nap.
We got to our hotel & I took his temperature again. 103.1. Yeesh. I called Dena to see if there was anything going around the daycare. I was just looking for some answers besides an infection in the port. Nothing at the daycare. So, I called the Hematologist at Childrens. Off to the local hospital. When we got there Kylers skin around his eyes was a little poofy & had a purplish tint. I was a little freaked out. We got into our room & the doctor came right in. They were wonderful there. He ended up having an ear infection and somehow it spread into his eyes as conjunctivitis. We had to do a port culture, just in case, so he got an antibiotic right away. The doctor reassured us that he'd be close to 100% for fireworks the next day. This all took place between 7 pm -1:00 am.
We slept the next morning! We decided to go to Magic Kingdom in the afternoon the next day. He said he was feeling better, but was still pretty cranky. We didn't get there until about 3:00 since we were hoping he would feel good enough to have some fun. We tried to get a picture in front of the castle. He was too crabby. We got some lemonade & got him a yellow Mickey Mouse balloon to try to cheer him up. It worked for a minute or two. Then we made our way back to Mickey & Minnie's houses. That helped. When we were in Minnie's house, it started pouring. Not a great first day. We braved the rain and got something to eat. He didn't have much of an appetite, so we decided to go back to our hotel. The Dolphin has an ice cream place called The Fountain. We thought we'd get some ice cream to hopefully cheer him up. It helped!! He ate a lot and was back to normal!! He didn't have a fever anymore either. After ice cream & the rain stopped, we decided to walk around outside. We were going to watch the fireworks at Epcot outside, but Kyler had to go potty.
Luckily, we had a balcony, so we went on our balcony to watch the fireworks. He was happy, feeling better, & our trip was getting better.
The next day we went to Epcot. He LOVED it!!! We saw Nemo and a lot of his favorite characters! We went on a few rides too. We spent the day there & even had a character dinner at the Garden Grill restaurant in The Land Pavillion. Kyler met Mickey, Pluto, Chip & Dale. Mickey was the best!! He was the first one to stop by. Kyler was in heaven! Since we were there during the off season, they all stopped by our table twice! Pluto jumped out from the table next to us and startled me. That was very funny to Kyler. The highlight of the dinner was seeing the buffalo. I know, weird! When we first sat down our table was facing buffalo. The restaurant revolved, so the buffalo apparently stuck in his head. He would say, "There's a big buffalo & another big buffalo & a little buffalo." and "That buffalo is eating grass. That guy's really mean!" He was pooped after that, so we went back to our hotel.
On Wednesday, we went to Animal Kingdom in the morning. We went on the safari & saw the Festival of the Lion King show. We were getting close to lunchtime, so we headed over to Hollywood Studios after that. We were there for 5 minutes, looking for Buzz Lightyear & Woody, but Kyler fell asleep in his stroller. We sat on a bench for about an hour while Kyler took a nap. We got antsy, so Keith & I walked around. We saw Handy Manny & tried to wake Kyler up. He wasn't having it. THEN, we saw Buzz & Woody. Kyler practically jumped out of his stoller to go wait in line to meet them. Good thing he was strapped in! I think that was the best 2 minutes of our trip. Kyler was so happy when he got to meet them! He even whimpered a little when our turn was over. We went on a couple of rides, saw the Muppets 3D movie and went back to our hotel. We decided to eat at the Garden Grove restaurant. Goofy & Pluto were there. He wasn't too fond of Goofy. I think it was because he was so big. He loved Pluto though! Pluto even got down on the floor & played with him.
On Thursday, we had a character breakfast at the Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary hotel. Kyler met Mickey again, Donald, Minnie, Pluto & Goofy. He wouldn't pose with Minnie, but everyone else was OK. After that we went back to our hotel for factor, some pool time & hopefully a nap. When we all woke up, we went back to Magic Kingdom. My Mother-in-Law & Father-in-Law were meeting us there. We went in and attempted another castle picture. He was still being crabby & I was frustrated. I had in my head a beautiful family picture in front of the castle, but it wasn't happening. We tried one with my in-laws & he was still crabby. We gave up and went on the carousel, saw Philharmagic, got a Fast Pass for Peter Pan & walked around. It was HOT that day. We went & got something to eat. We went back to ride Peter Pan & then Kyler wanted to go see Philharmagic again. I love that 3D show too!! We walked around, went on some more rides & then decided to get our places for the fireworks & parade. Kyler loved the fireworks and parade! The lights & characters were awesome!! He passed out on our way back to the buses to go back to the hotel. It was a really good day after the crabbies passed when we left the castle.
On Friday morning, we went to a nice buffet breakfast in our hotel. Then we went back to Epcot to see the buffalo's again. He'd been talking about them all week, so we had to go back! After we walked around a little, we went over to Hollywood Studios. We had Fast Passes for the Toy Story Mania ride from Wednesday, so we went to that. It was a great ride!! They had a parade/block party with all of the Pixar characters, so we watched that. It was really cute. We went back to the hotel after that to relax a little & freshen up. We met Keith's parents for dinner that night at the Garden Grove. It was a really nice dinner. Timon & Rafiki from The Lion King were there. Kyler didn't like either of them at first. Timon worked hard & they were best buds by the end of dinner. Rafiki didn't stand a chance. After dinner, we went to Epcot for the fireworks.
On Saturday, we were leaving. My In-Laws picked us up and brought us to the airport. They still had a few more days in Florida. We got home in the early afternoon. It was a wonderful trip. The first 24 hours were rough, but after that, it was everything I hoped for and more!! Kyler was such a good boy. He was very agreeable most of the time, he was really good about going potty and being a big boy. He loved all of the magic & fun that Disney World is. He still talks about Mickey Mouse, the buffalo, fireworks & Buzz & Woody.
I can't wait to go back!! Hopefully next time we'll have another little one to show the magic of Disney World to! ;)
