We were at Children's Memorial Hospital & Kyler was recovering from his port surgery.  Wow, I can't believe it's already been a year!!  In that time he's had 95 infusions, 6 ankle bleeds, 2 soft tissue bleeds & 2 trips to the hospital for a port culture because his temperature was over 101 degrees.  All of these things were fixed by accessing his port.

That port has changed our lives.  Prior to putting the port in, Keith & I were afraid & unsure.  We worried about the next bleed & having to put our son through 6, 7, 8 pokes while a nurse (or 2 or 3) tried to find a vein in a chubby baby.  We worried about going to the hospital at midnight because Kyler woke up with a spontaneous bleed & spending hours in the hospital trying to calm him down when he was tired & in pain.

Now, we are full of hope & determination.  All of the above bleeds have been treated in the comfort of our home.  Kyler has been able to recover in our home, in our arms.  He's gotten factor while watching his favorite shows, so he can recover as quickly as possible.  Sure, there's still pain & tears, but not the same terrified tears he used to have.  The pain is greatly reduced because we don't have to wait to drive to a hospital, wait for a doctor, wait for a nurse to find a vein, etc...  Everything is done at home!!! (of course we'd take him to the ER if he had a major bleed or needed x-rays.)

Happy 1 year birthday little port!  You've made the past year amazing & we are so happy we decided you were right for our situation!  Let's continue to work together to keep this little boy running, jumping, dancing & doing everything he wants to do!!
